Ronstadt Gets the Boot
The New York Times commented in an editorial today about the injustice of president of the Aladdin ejecting Ms. Ronstadt from the hotel for her political commentary ( She praised Fahrenheit 9/11 director Michael Moore). They have opined that this is a violation of her right to free speech. But the fact of the matter is that it is not. The president of the Aladdin was perfectly within his rights to kick her out for her untimely comments. Linda Ronstadt was not hired to give her political opinion (which most people wouldn't pay to hear), but for her ability to sing beautifully (and in fairness, she has a wonderful voice, and I love several of her songs). She should have known that by voicing her opinion she was taking a chance.
I applaud the courage of the Aladdin's president for standing up for the company's rights, without apologizing.
